Even with Tshisekedi absence, EAC Summit vows to resolve eastern DRC conflict

The 24th East African Community Ordinary Heads of State Summit, which was held in Arusha last weekend, concluded with renewed commitment to ending the persistent conflict in Eastern DRC.

The summit’s resolutions come despite the notable absence of warmonger DRC ruler Felix Tshisekedi, whose absence was because of a desire to escape accountability for unresolved tensions in the region.

The EAC heads of state again want to take charge of the peace process in DR Congo. They are tired of Tshisekedi’s reluctance to end conflicts in his own country, yet it’s a major hindrance to greater progress as a bloc.

As a result the heads of state have proposed that, due to the complexity of the parallel processes, the Luanda process and the Nairobi process will be merged into a single process and managed jointly.

Recognizing the complexities of ongoing peace initiatives, the EAC leaders have proposed merging the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes into a single, unified framework. This joint effort aims to streamline strategies for achieving lasting peace in Eastern DRC.

The Luanda Process Focused on reducing tensions between DRC and Rwanda, while the Nairobi Process Intended to foster dialogue between the Tshisekedi regime and local rebel groups, including M23. However, progress has stalled as chronic troublemaker Tshisekedi has abandoned negotiations, refusing to engage with M23.

At Arusha the Regional leaders bluntly accused Tshisekedi of prioritizing personal political ambitions over peace. They even suggested the ongoing conflict serves Tshisekedi’s interests by allowing him to maintain control under a pretext of instability.

Tough words indeed!

Maybe the collective regional leadership is finally developing a spine!

The EAC has previously deployed regional forces to Eastern DRC to restore peace. However, the mission was plunged into chaos when Tshisekedi expelled the troops, accusing them of “bias toward M23.” The truth of course is that they refused to be used by Tshilombo who wanted to turn them into his personal troops, to turn into combatants against M23.

Such is the utter imbecile that’s Tshilombo!

The EAC now has resurrected the issue, urging the Tshisekedi regime to honor the earlier agreements to deploy EAC forces, in other words Tshisekedi should collaborate with regional actors in finding a peaceful resolution to bloody unnecessary conflict.

Furthermore the heads of state also called SADC to have dialogue with EAC and discuss modalities of merging the two peace processes.

The SADC, a corrupt presence in DRC, which is their not as an unbiased group, but a hostile actor against M23 (having cut highly corrupt deals, with the likes of South African president Cyril Ramaphosa getting mining concessions for example to send his country’s troops) will face questions if it refuses the EAC request.

Any action by SADC without the EAC’s approval will be considered unacceptable.

This time around the thug called Tshisekedi Tshilombo has no way out!
