The Congolese military, FARDC is notorious for brutal reprisals against innocent civilians whenever M23 advances militarily. However, the FARDC thugs always brutalize civilians as a pretext to demonize M23.
Their latest atrocity is the extensive bombardment of civilians in Matembe and Hutwe, Katwa, and Kasinga in the Lubero area, which happened for several hours beginning early this Monday morning. And as ever, the FARDC was committing their latest war crime together with their FDLR and Wazalendo partners.
These cowardly thugs were retaliating on civilians, because shortly before, the M23 liberation movement had announced the capture of Rusayu, not far away.
It is not the first time that FARDC and its coalition inflict terror, targeting innocent civilians every time they lose territories. This also happened on 4th may this year, when they fired artillery shells into the Mugunga camp, killing big numbers of civilians and sending everyone fleeing in disarray.
On September first last year, a unit of FARDC stormed a church in Goma, indiscriminately opening fire on civilians, which resulted in the deaths of 48 innocents. This occurred just two weeks after M23 had made significant territorial gains in the Masisi region, in an area overlooking the town of Goma.
Before the killings in broad daylight, whereby the so-called republican guards shot people who had sought refuge in one of the churches in Goma, there had been massive protests by the population denouncing Monusco, the UN (supposed) peace keeping forces.
The population for the umpteenth time decried the criminal FARDC and its similarly thieving, murdering, raping partner gangs.
One can only root for M23 to rout these armed criminal gangs, and send them running to Kinshasa.
