The Congolese ruler, Félix Tshisekedi, is yet again a meme and a subject of laughter on social media. This is after a 41-second video clip of his went viral slandering Rwanda- a stratagem he opted for as a smokescreen to conceal his incompetence vis-à-vis the rampant insecurity that paralyzed the Eastern Congo.
Tshisekedi was addressing the 42nd summit of the Southern African Development Community – SADC’s heads of states that convened yesterday in Kinshasa. The failed ruler is blatantly heard mumbling that Congo is a “victim of a cowardly and barbaric aggression by Rwanda,” a defamatory pronouncement that should not go unnoticed as far as Rwanda-Congo diplomacy is concerned.
Well, Tshisekedi, who also doubles as the commander-in-chief of FARDC was desperately trying to draw a veil over the rampant internal Congolese conflicts and his inability to address them as well as FARDC’s unholy alliance with FDLR- the notorious group born of ex-FAR and Interahamwe genocidaires.
Tshisekedi made the incendiary pronouncement a month after he revealed that he is only driven by vendetta; that was at the time he threatened to “launch a war on Rwanda”, a miscalculation he can’t win whatsoever.
Additionally, the Congolese ruler has chosen to ignore the real issues hindering the relations between the two countries. He diverted attention to Rwanda that it supports the M23 rebel group, especially in the ongoing civil war pitting the FARDC and the former.
On the other hand, the Rwandan leadership should be applauded for maintaining a quiet, diplomatic stance amidst ceaseless provocations, insults, and slanders from Kinshasa.
Rwanda has never ceased to urge the Congolese authorities to endeavor to address the real issues that are their failures and the rampant internal conflicts and avoid falsely casting blame on Rwanda because the country does not benefit from their instabilities.
DR Congo will only have peace when its leaders own up and take responsibility. It is up to them and not their neighbors to bring peace and order to their country. Otherwise, insults or any other childish games won’t yield any result.
