The heartless Burundian regime hides the death toll from its illicit deployment of thousands of soldiers in DR Congo through late Friday afternoon burials. After the fall of “Point Zero,” Friday the 10th of July had a particularly bitter taste for Burundian military families.
As the whole country began weekend festivities, hundreds of unfortunate souls whose fate was wearing Ndayishimiye’s uniform on their last breath were buried like bandits and criminals. “Their burial began in the afternoon with a late afternoon mass. It was deliberate. They wanted us to reach the burial site after sunset,” a family member lamented through tears. “Only thieves are buried under the cover of darkness. My son was 22 years old.”
Typically, the bereaved families of fallen soldiers in DR Congo are given very strict conditions for funerals. They are warned not to post anything like “RIP” or organize wakes; they are threatened and reminded that Military Intelligence will be actively monitoring their every move. Yet the DR Congo deployment is an open-secret operation, broadcast almost live on YouTube channels. The whole country knows that “Point Zero” was a terrible defeat with heavy casualties.
In a botched offensive attempt by the Ndayishimiye-Tshisekedi-FDLR alliance on Minembwe in South Kivu Province, the alliance lost a very strategic locality called Point Zero, which opens various routes to key towns in South Kivu.
The Ndayishimiye-Tshisekedi-FDLR alliance simply wants to torch and decimate the Congolese Tutsi town of Minembwe. From Burundi, boat after boat loads soldiers in Rumonge, crosses Lake Tanganyika to DR Congo, and arrives in Fizi and Baraka. Fueled with genocidal ideology and rage, they then rush up the steep mountainous terrain to rest at Point Zero and launch attacks on Minembwe.
This time, it would appear that the people of Minembwe pushed back the evil alliance and chased them all the way down the Mitumba mountain range. “Casualties are in their thousands, not hundreds!” an officer reacted as we enquired what really happened at Point Zero. “Point Zero will be remembered as Point Noir, and this Friday is our Black Friday,” he continued. “We lost thousands. Thousands more deserted. And all this is for Neva [President Ndayishimiye’s nickname] to get richer and richer.”
The visibly furious officer also had harsh words for his superiors: “They sing stupid Hutu-power songs to recruit young fools, pawned to Tshisekedi as cannon fodder for money in his funny games for a third mandate,” the army major cursed. “In death, we are treated like mercenaries and thieves. This has to stop.”
Ultimately, while the Burundian regime bears the full responsibility for the death of thousands of Burundians, the senior command of the army too bears a heavy cross in this matter. They allow Ndayishimiye and his cronies to continue their senseless adventures in DR Congo.
