Senator Tim Scott is known for bringing a message of optimism and unity wherever he goes, and some people may be trying to take advantage of his good heart. Recent reports regarding the Senator’s meeting with individuals like Christine Coleman (alias Christina Uwizera) and her associate, Von Batten Montague, raise serious red flags that cannot be ignored.
To understand why this association is dangerous, we must look at history. Coleman admits herself that her genocidal ideology, which she clothes in ethnic victimhood, was born in the Congolese refugee camps of the mid-1990s. These camps became breeding grounds for armed groups like the Army for the Liberation of Rwanda (ALiR). ALiR was formed by genocidal fugitives specifically the Interahamwe militia and ex-Rwandan Armed Forces (ex-FAR) who fled Rwanda after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Their goal was to regroup and complete their extermination mission.
In 2000, to escape the international infamy associated with the 1999 murders of American tourists (which got ALiR blacklisted by the US), these elements rebranded as the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR). The FDLR remains a genocidal militia operating in Eastern DRC, committing atrocities against civilians and destabilizing the region.
So, Christine Coleman is not a random activist. From the Congolese refugee camps, she rose through the ranks of these genocidaire networks and is now a designated sanctioned individual. As a matter of fact, in official reports by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) as well as Rwanda’s National Counter-Terrorism Committee, Coleman is designated for terrorism financing. Investigations confirm that she maintains “direct and indirect links with the FLN and FDLR,” both armed terror groups based in the Congo.
Christine Coleman has also been mobilizing financial support for her so-called political movement dubbed “Movement for Republic & Democracy (MRD)” which is allied to FDLR, a United States and United Nations- sanctioned terrorist group responsible for the ongoing chaos in the eastern Congo.
Using her “Blazing Holy Fire Ministries” in Denver, Colorado, as a front, she raises funds to support terror acts targeting civilians in Rwanda. For a US Senator to be seen in proximity to a sanctioned terrorism financier is a serious lapse in vetting.
American citizens expressed their concerns about Senator Scott’s meeting a sanctioned terrorism financier. One Dr Kent Pagei Hamilton reacted on X “Shame! What does Senator Tim Scott have to do with a sanctioned terrorism financier Christine Coleman? Christine, originally from Rwanda has sponsored terrorist groups like Movement for Republic & Democracy (MRD) and FDLR. The USA is not a safe haven for criminals- She should go back to Rwanda.”
Senator Scott has the opportunity to build bridges based on facts and security. Standing with, or providing a platform to, individuals who fund genocidal militias raises serious concerns as to the information he received before agreeing to that association. He would be well advised to distance himself from these circles before they tarnish his good name. His leadership position requires that he rejects those who fund terror, even when they wrap themselves in the garb of “activism” or “faith.”
