Once again the shameless Amnesty International has shown it’s not in the business of human rights, but in the business of politics-for-hire.
In a display of selective outrage, the NGO’s Eastern Africa office, headed by the ever dubious Tigere Chagutah, has released yet another piece of pay-for-play fiction. Its latest “report” alleges that the Congolese political-military movement M23/AFC, the liberators of eastern Congo, is “committing torture and abuses”, supposedly with Rwanda’s backing. But of course! After all Tshisekedi dictates the text, practically.
Amnesty’s reports are little more than a theatre of falsehoods.
For years, this so-called human rights watchdog has churned out biased, unsubstantiated accusations against Rwanda and the M23/AFC, conveniently ignoring the facts on the ground. Instead of objective investigation, they manufacture stories out of thin air, painting Rwanda as the villain without any solid evidence. This reckless tactic echoes the disastrous “chemical weapons” lies that once justified the destruction of Iraq — an infamous historical precedent in misinformation.
What is Amnesty really doing? It’s acting as the paid mouthpiece of Tshisekedi’s failing regime, trying to criminalise Rwanda and the Congolese political-military movement M23/AFC before any defence can even be made. In the liberated zones where the M23/AFC operates, the truth of security and governance contradicts Amnesty’s fabrications. Yet, this organisation repeatedly ignores due process and rigorous fact-checking, sacrificing integrity on the altar of political expediency.
Meanwhile, the real butchery—carried out by FDLR genocidaires and FARDC—gets a pass. Convenient, isn’t it? Amnesty has never once issued a serious report on the fact that Tshisekedi’s army is embedding genocidal FDLR fighters into its ranks. These are the same genocidaires who, after butchering over a million Tutsi in 1994, now use Rwandan refugees as human shields in the DRC.
The world should not be fooled. The only thing M23/AFC and Rwanda are guilty of is standing in the way of Tshisekedi’s bloody racket and the genocidal plans of his FDLR allies. Amnesty International, meanwhile, has forfeited all credibility. They are no longer a watchdog, but a lapdog—snarling on command for a corrupt regime hellbent on burying truth under propaganda.
