Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva is annoyed that despite his more than 15,000 soldiers in Congo, the international community still ignores him in the DRC Congo mediation efforts in both Washington and Doha.
Privately, Ndayishimiye complains that he is still not getting an invitation to the negotiation table, evidently, all mediation teams consider him to be a Tshisekedi stooge.
“It’s a public fact, Ndayishimiye is paid to be in Congo. Tshisekedi basically converted Neva from mediator to beligirent with a few millions”, an African diplomat explained, adding, “there is no need to invite Ndayishimiye simply because his boss Tshisekedi is there!”
The diplomate was referring to the unbelievable fact that Evariste Ndayishimiye was initially considered to be a neutral party and even appointed as a mediator in there eastern DR Congo conflict by the East African Community. He even invited AFC/M23 delegates to Bujumbura and deployed a peacekeeping force under the EAC banner.
Suddenly, the Burundian President changed his posture and attacked AFC/M23 in joint operations with Tshisekedi’s forces. His posture changed after a visit to Kinshasa and an unexpected return trip to Bujumbura via a known money laundering destination [location withheld to protect the source].
“We loaded the rent private jet with bags of money; hard cash in US Dollars”, our source revealed, “We then took the cash to safe heaven and deposited on an account opened by the first lady”.
The next day, President Ndayishimiye held a meeting with some Burundian commanders and directors of intelligence services, he ordered attacks against AFC/M23 targets.
Ndayishimiye’s flipflop was so public that he made the hilarious claim of two sets of forces with different mandates; one as peacekeepers and another set as an offensive forces deployed under a bilateral agreement with Congo.
Tshisekedi and Ndayishimiye had hoped for a surprise backstabbing maneuver against M23 and even an opportunity to attack Rwanda jointly. However, Congolese and Burundian forces were no match for AFC/M23; they faced a humiliating defeat and only earned the reputation of cowardriness.
Desperate, isolated and irrelevant, Neva is now planning attacks in South Kivu hoping to attract attention. In his inner circle, they are worried; what if his desperate need for attention goes wrong? “Bujumbura is barely 30 km away from Uvira”, a military officer remaked, “his provocation will not end well”, our source concluded.
