Why is Ndayishimiye so desperate to sabotage peace in DR Congo?

As peace initiatives in Doha and Washington make headway on a settlement of the DR Congo conflict, Burundian tyrant Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva is busy stirring up war and planning on escalating the conflict.

As usual with any news of a positive development for peace in Congo, Neva reacts with a series unprovoked media attacks and then deployement of troops in Congo. “It is clearly a coordinate response by Burundi and Tshisekedi to torpedo any peace process,” a diplomatic source observed.

Barely 24 hours after real progress on peace talks became public, Evariste Ndayishimiye personally launched a vicious media attack on Rwanda in an interview with France 24 where he repeated senseless lies of a grand conspiracy to attack Burundi.

The irony, in 2021, Ndayishimiye was posing as a EAC mediator for the conflict in DRC; he was supposed to organise a regional effort to descalate the conflict. He even met the AFC/M23 movement pretending to meditate them with Tshisekedi’s regime in Kinshasa. When AFC/M23 agreed to a ceasefire monitored by the EAC regional block, Ndayishimiye and Tshisekedi sabotaged it by expelling EAC. By 2022, Neva’s real intentions were revealed with 10,000 soldiers deployed to help Tshisekedi and his FDLR genocidal allies. Motivated by their common genocidal ideology, they had forged a common plan to attack Rwanda and to exterminate Tutsis and EAC was standing in their way. Fortunately, AFC/M23 defeated their coalition and pushed them back all the way to the Burundian border.

However, once again, as progress is made for peace, Ndayishimiye and Tshisekedi plot on various ways to sabotage it and reignite war. In addition to the sustained media and social media attacks, there are now confirmed reports of Burundi sending heavy artillery in DR Congo on the 29th of April 2025 via its last land border with Congo. However, local observers are quick to point out that this time, Ndayishimiye must be emboldened by more than his genocidal ideology and massive bribes from the Kinshasa regime; a well documented external factor in the region is actively supporting Ndayishimiye.

“He [Ndayishimiye] does have the reputation of being a coward”, one observer notes, “he would not risk deploying more troops after suffering defeat after defeat”. Currently, not even Tshisekedi’s bribes would be enough to convince Ndayishimiye to dig himself deeper into Congo’s internal affairs. “It’s Belgium”, a source familiar to the inner workings of the Ndayishimiye dictatorship simply replied, “We had managed to convince Neva to pull out of Congo to spare Burundian soldiers lives but then the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister had a chat with him and suddenly, he is now talking war again”, our source explained.

Belgium has had a negative role in the current conflict in DR Congo by orchestrating smear campaigns and outright hate speech against the Tutsis minority. Burundi, Belgium and Tshisekedi are worried about the prospect of peace in DR Congo as it would inevitably mean an end to their daylight robberies of Congolese natural resources, and worse of all, it would also mean accountability for the crimes against humanity and genocide ideology they peddled in Congo.

Peacemakers should take notes: Although Tshisekedi publicly says he wants peace, he immediately calls on trusted network of minions and allies to spark war.
