On February 27, 2025, the city of Bukavu in South Kivu witnessed a horrific attack that left 11 people dead, and 65 injured. The attack targeted a public gathering where leaders of AFC-M23 were addressing thousands of civilians. The intention was clear: to assassinate the M23 leaders. However, they all survived, while innocent civilians paid the price.
This brutal assault came right after a meeting between criminal Tshisekedi and the exiled governor of South Kivu, Jean Jacques Pulusu. According to reliable sources, the objective of this meeting was to orchestrate chaos in Bukavu. This raises serious concerns about the Congolese criminal regime’s direct involvement in the attack.
Interrogations of the arrested suspects reveal that the bombers intended to target two gas stations at Place du 24, aiming to cause maximum destruction. Their goal was to kill as many people as possible at the M23 meeting. It was only the presence of M23 forces on-site that thwarted this mass-murder attempt.
Tshisekedi saw the large turnout at the M23 gathering in Bukavu and decided to retaliate in the most cowardly way by killing innocent civilians. But this crime will not go unpunished. Justice must be served.
Adding to this crimeis the role of David Radjabu Djuma, a known advocate of hate speech against the Rwandophones of Kivu. Just a day before the attack, Djuma released a video threatening anyone who would participate in Corneille Nangaa’s meeting in Bukavu. Djuma, who enjoys strong ties with the Congolese regime, had even met with the Minister of Land Affairs in Kinshasa on February 8, 2025.
Immediately after the attack, Tshisekedi was quick to issue a condolence message while simultaneously blaming Rwanda and the M23 rebels. This narrative was echoed by FARDC, the DRC propagandist in chief Patrick Muyaya, and the Ministry of Interior. However, the facts tell a different story.
Just days before the meeting, Wazalendo militants openly declared their intention to sabotage Nangaa’s gathering. There exist audio and video recordings proving this was planned at the highest levels of the Congolese state.
Before FARDC troops left Bukavu, weapons and war ammunition were distributed to Wazalendo armed groups and select civilians. Even now, pockets of Wazalendo militants remain in Bukavu, acting as informants for the Congolese authorities.
The individuals behind this attack are the same ones who armed Wazalendo. This act is a war crime, and those responsible must be held accountable.
The Bukavu attack is just one of many brutal acts committed by Kinshasa’s forces and allied militias in eastern DRC. Mass killings, drone strikes, and ethnic purges have become tools of state-sponsored terror.
The international community must wake up to the reality of Tshisekedi’s crimes. He is playing with the lives of innocent Congolese citizens for political gain, and he must be held accountable.
Justice must prevail. The victims of Bukavu deserve nothing less.
