Incessant declarations by countries in the global north condemning the advances of M23 in Masisi territory not only disregard reality on the ground, they also show a greed-driven agenda towards in the DR Congo. They act in a manner to curry favor with the government of looters in Kinshasa, while callously throwing eastern DRC communities (whom Congolese ruler Tshisekedi has targeted in an ongoing campaign of genocide) under the bus.
Following the EU commission statement on Tuesday condemning the advances of M23, it was the turn of Belgium, then the US, and now the UN. All these statements are written in a hostile, false manner, seeking to indict Rwanda and its leaders for every bad thing happening in the DRC, while absolving Congolese leaders – the true culprits of the country’s woes.
None of the countries that issued statements cared to denounce the rampant repression, killings and displacement of marginalized Tutsis Congolese whose women and children are raped or exploited. The same plight which has forced M23 to pick up arms and fight for their survival and or ensure their rights as Congolese citizens.
The Western hypocrisy on display is off the charts.
Some European countries have openly sent hired mercenaries to fight alongside DRC national army knowing very well it goes against norms and practice of international conventions. As if that wasn’t enough, when they condemn M23, they ignore ongoing all established mechanisms to restore peace and security like both Luanda and Nairobi processes.
The DRC’s mineral wealth has blinded many Western nations to the point of forgetting they once blacklisted genocidal forces like the FDLR. Now, they are even supporting these violent groups. Notably, the US, which sanctioned the FDLR and its leaders is the one endorsing Tshisekedi, despite knowing his army has partnered with this genocidal group to target Tutsi communities, aiming to destabilize Kigali and complete the genocide mission halted in 1994.
It seems the West cannot abandon its imperialistic designs toward the DRC and its resources. It’s given a huge assist by the bumbling fools in charge in Kinshasa.
Terrible!
