The report claiming that “15 civilians were killed by M23 rebels in Rutshuru territory” highlights an ongoing false narrative by the Tshisekedi regime, to shift upon others blame for their own crimes and evade accountability.
This narrative consistently targets M23 and Rwanda, masking the deeper issue: a collaboration between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) and the FDLR, a violent militia responsible for severe atrocities. Tshisekedi’s administration leverages this blame game to deflect attention from its own failings and avoid responsibility for the suffering inflicted on Congolese civilians.
The partnership between FARDC and FDLR is well-known in the region.
Despite the FDLR’s long-standing role in violence, such as massacres, rape, looting, and mass displacement of civilians, the Tshisekedi regime knowingly is in bed with them, worsening regional instability.
The Rwandan terrorist outfit (born of the ex FAR and Interahamwe) perpetrates atrocities (together with FARDC), then Kinshasa regime propagandists are quick to post statements blaming the M23 movement, and Rwanda!
By promoting this false narrative, Tshisekedi hopes to distract the DRC public and the international community from the true perpetrators, allowing his regime to continue its gross abuses of civilians without consequences.
The manipulation has had devastating effects. Innocent lives are lost, communities are terrorized. It’s a sad, repetitive story.
Usually these false reports about “M23 “atrocities” are debunked. But the harm is done by the time the truth emerges. This distorts the international perspective on the Congo crisis.
The international community must condemn, aggressively, the FARDC and FDLR for their crimes, and call for an end to their impunity.
Nothing less will do.
