The Burundian and Congolese regimes are in full panic mode after Republicans suffer a massive defeat in the US mid-term elections. They are seriously concerned about their wasteful lobbyist funding, but more so about the possibility of Congressional oversight and investigations that might uncovered highly unethical hidden deals that titled US foreign policy.
A few weeks ago, Reuters and other news outlets reported about it; something fishy was developing around mining deals in DR Congo and it involved dubious political hacks and operators.
Tshisekedi and Ndayishimiye paid so much bribes that it literally caused in-fighting in close circles to the current US administration. Big names such as Erik Prince of the infamous mercenary Blackwater group, in-laws of the powerful and mighty, were cited as cutting deals in exchange for support of the brutal ethnic cleansing operations led by Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye and Tshisekedi of DR Congo in North and South Kivu. The sudden flip in the Senate and Congress carries the risks of unavailing embarrassing details as foreign policy decision face scrutiny.
“We are in big trouble”, a source close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed, “if any of our lobbyists are called to testify by Congress, we will be in big trouble”. What further seemed to worry our source was the promises already made and expenses already incurred, “Congo might have given mining concessions to the wrong group of Americans, and jointly, we spent billions for access to a sitting duck!”
Once again, Ndayishimiye and Tshisekedi corrupt strategies seem to be landing them in trouble. The blame game will definitely be on the menu.
