Burundi, the poorest and the most deprived country of foreign currency reserves is hosting a summit in the coming weeks. It is a feel good stunt designed to foolishly massage the bruised egos of the brutal Burundian regime. The President even had to skip the UN and the Francophonie general assemblies to make sure the country has enough resources to host the events.
The events in question, the COMESA head of state summit comes after a made up “high level women meeting” event hosted by the Burundian first lady. The fragile country already feels the pain of hosting 4 first ladies; massive traffic jams, shortages of fuel and sugar are back in town. The country’s fuel supplies could not manage the minute increase in demand with only four special guest.
Burundi is run like a circus show designed to distract from epic CNDD-FDD’s failures. For more than 20 years, they looted the country turning it into the poorest and the most corrupt country in the world. While other country developed, Burundi regressed sliding down to unchartered economic uncertainty. Ndayishimiye and his cronies plunged the country into a ditch and offer cheap distractions such as anti-Rwanda rhetorics, racism and once in a while, they organise meaningless events.
Burundi is not a “normal” country, it is a chaotic area governed by bandits. Its a fact, Burundians know this, and soon despite Ndayishimiye’s briefing, the guests will find out.
