The Congolese outgoing ruler Tshisekedi continues to turn a deaf ear by refusing the advice of several global leaders to dialogue with the M23. African and international leaders have always told him to sit down and have dialogue with m23, but he shows no will to act accordingly, his regime prefers military action against the M23 but that is contrary to solutions proposed by international and other regional leaders.
The catholic church bishops in DRC once again asked Tshisekedi regime to dialogue with M23, catholic church which has a huge influence on the politics of DRC, archbishop of Goma Willy Ngumbi insisted that dialogue between M23 and the Kinshasa regime is the only solution needed to put an end to the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC.
“We have always recommended dialogue between our authorities and the M23 …We think, we cannot put an end to this war using force, we need a dialogue” archbishop Ngumbi said on Sunday.
Tshisekedi turned a deaf ear to the advice of Regional and African leaders to dialogue with M23 because of his political interest, regional leaders such as Museveni of Uganda, Samia Suluhu of Tanzania, Uhuru Kenyatta, former President of Kenya and current EAC facilitator insisted that Tshisekedi must dialogue with M23 but he kept ignoring the advice, even the African Union through its chairperson insisted that Dialogue is the only solution but Tshisekedi relies on the war more than dialogue.
Despite countless recommendations from both domestic and international powers urging him to engage in dialogue with M23 Tshisekedi appears to be wearing a blindfold. International actors such as the UN Secretary-General, French President Macron, Pope Francis, USA, and many others showed Tshisekedi that the dialogue with M23 is the only solution, Denying M23 a meaningful dialogue is not just a refusal to be responsible; it’s a dereliction of duty as a leader of a country that is desperate for peace.
Instead of dialoguing with M23, he opted to attack the revolutionary movement by breaking regional frameworks and violating the ceasefire, the Luanda and Nairobi agreements were the only solution to end conflicts but Tshisekedi who did nothing to restore peace in eastern DRC chose to violate all the agreement and engage in war for his interest.
Tshisekedi has refused to dialogue with M23 while he knows it is the only thing that could lead to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, he thinks that continued war between his army and the rebels will earn him votes. Yet dialogue with M23 will still earn him criticism from opponents for bending to foreign interests and selling out their country
