Tribalism and regionalism become Félix Tshisekedi’s only campaign method

Tshisekedi has unreservedly embraced tribalism and employed his divisive tactics to sow discord within the region. He has made hatred and xenophobia the central discourse of his electoral campaign to seduce the less informed minds that represents the majority of the Congolese population.

At the 19th tour of his campaign rally in Lubumbashi, the unpopular president launched an attack against the Swahili-speaking Congolese calling them “foreigners and enemies of the country” – such a statement, considered tribal by many Congolese, echoes his father’s speeches during the Mobutu era, where he described certain Africans as foreigners. By relying on divisions and hate speeches Tshisekedi continues to divide Congolese.
As if hunting for the Congolese Tutsi was not enough, tribalist Tshisekedi decided to attack Swahili speakers because he thought that they would not vote for him, we already know that his regime has disconnected from eastern DRC. The territories of Masisi and Rutshuru, in North Kivu, are home to hundreds of thousands of the Tutsi community who were stripped of their right to vote, Tshisekedi failed to protect the Congolese Tutsi. He knows they will not vote for him, hence excluding them from elections instead he continues to persecute them through his FARDC and its coalition.

Tshisekedi maintains insecurity in eastern DRC because he doesn’t care about the Swahilophones and Rwandophones, the persecution and killing of Congolese Tutsi by Congolese armed forces together with other rebel groups and white mercenaries continue, To date, hate speech against Congolese Tutsi communities has spread nationwide by the DRC security personnel or political figures, civil society actors, and members of the Congolese diaspora, through conventional media and social media the fear of being outvoted by his strong opponent Katumbi thus cause his regime to keep attacking every Congolese community he believed that supports Katumbi.

The Tshisekedi regime wants to cover up their failure of management with hate speech and incitement to Congolese, instead of presenting concrete social projects to improve the lives of citizens, the president seems focused on his re-election and his interests. The use of tribalism as an electoral strategy is seen as an attempt to divert attention from the shortcomings of his political program.

The divide-and-rule tactic of Tshisekedi will not work, instead of presenting a manifesto to the Congolese, he prefers to divide the population, by using a speech that endangers national unity and causes violence to Congolese
