Survivors and families of victims of terror attacks by MRCD/FLN – a collective of illegal armed groups led by convicted, formerly US-based, Rwandan terrorist Paul Rusesabagina – have renewed calls to the Biden administration to help expedite the victims’ compensations worth over US$ 400,000.
The call was repeated during yesterday’s commemoration event that took place in Nyungwe Forest; at one of the scenes of the deadly terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nine unarmed innocent civilians in South Western, four years back.
The bereaved brought it out clearly that they are still waiting for compensation, as it was ruled out by the High Court Chamber for International Crimes last year. They displayed several placards with one reading, “Victims of Nyabimata are still grieving.”
On the other hand, international mainstream media outlets are flooded with articles or commentary to cynically portray Rusesabagina as “innocent”, even calling for his release, regardless the heinous crimes he was convicted of. The cynicism of these people knows no boundaries!
The aggrieved victims want the International Community to stop portraying the perpetrator as the victim, and to respect the decisions of the Rwandan judicial system, as an independent institution. The courts, diligently pursuing due process over a period of several months, proved Rusesabagina guilty of terrorist activist.
The man even appeared in video and audio, inciting treason and acts of terrorism.
The foreign actors trying to sanitize Rusesabagina of his crimes ought to be reminded that Rusesabagina himself confessed to his crimes.
What more do they want!
The man’s victims should be compensated, as soon as possible.
