Minutes before flying to Angola to meet President Kagame at a gathering hosted by ICGLR President João Lourenço, President Tshisekedi took to mainstream media to announce that his country was “set to launch a war on Rwanda!”
Tshisekedi made the pronouncement in the British daily newspaper, The Financial Times. Tshisekedi’s incendiary statements are predictably being amplified by his regime sycophants and propagandists. This is despite the tripartite summit tabling a roadmap on the pacification process in the eastern region of DR Congo.
Tshisekedi is against the peaceful way of dealing with the Congolese civil war at the time when President Kagame early this week assured that war was not a solution to the crisis. Also stresses that DR Congo’s problems are inherently political and can only be addressed through a political process.
“The political process is very important for me and I guess for everyone else, it comes first,” Kagame said on Monday, July 4, during a televised interview. Adding: “You just don’t keep fighting and expect to find a solution for political crises or governance problems,”
The Kinshasa regime has been steadfastly ignoring the elephant in the room: the rampant internal conflicts and inability to address them as well as DR Congo’s unholy alliance with FDLR – the notorious group born of ex-FAR and Interahamwe genocidaires.
The leadership of Rwanda has maintained a quiet and diplomatic stance amidst ceaseless provocations, insults, and slanders from Kinshasa by urging the Congolese authorities to endeavor to address its failures, as well as the rampant internal conflicts. Rwanda has indeed maintained her calm, as conflict benefits no one.
Congo should therefore be borrowing lessons, to address the real issues and avoid falsely casting blame on Rwanda because the country does not benefit from DR Congo’s instabilities.
