An unsigned petition has this morning made its way to the Burundian President, Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Neva. It was written anonymously by a group of soldiers pleading with him to order a complete withdraw from the Democratic Republic of Congo. They demand an orderly withdrawal as they face the real prospect of yet another humiliating defeat in Uvira (bordering town in DRC, barely 30 km from Bujumbura).
In the petition, details of the previous defeat emerged that left no questions about the author or the authenticity of the letter. They named fallen officers and exact flash points previously unknown to the general public. They mentioned running like madmen in Luvungi and Sake, or crossing into Nyamitaga naked and afraid of the advancing force that booted them out of South Kivu and Uvira surrounding areas.
“Your Excellency, we lost thousands of soldiers and equipment including our heavy artillery. We fled chaotically, running like thieves in the middle of the night. We implore you to give the order to withdraw now”, the letter stressed in its last paragraph after detailing a series of catastrophic failures. The letter also questioned the entire logic of the illegal deployment in DR Congo.
In an alliance with the FDLR genocidal forces and Felix Tshisekedi of DR Congo, Ndayishimiye sent over 20,000 soldiers in South Kivu to support an ethnic cleansing operation. The letter questioned the logic of fighting in a war that is obviously morally twisted and that holds no value to Burundi. “We do not benefit from supporting the FDLR, or even fighting in Congolese war”, they asked “How can a country with over 100 million people seek help from Burundi with merely 14 million people?” insisting on the fact that Burundians should not be dragged into Congolese’s internal affairs.
Respectfully, the petitioners touched on the hard reality that the deployment is purely based on selfish financial gains of a few Generals bribed by Tshisekedi. “We are aware that Tshisekedi bribed a few Generals for our blood”, they wrote, “yet our blood is not for sale”, they concluded.
The petition mysteriously appeared in several key military installation which equally revealed a subtle threat to the Burundian regime. It coincidentally occurs as fighting in the South Kivu intensifies and as Ndayishimiye prepares to increase the Burundian army deployment in DR Congo.
