The complexity of the conflict can also be seen as something deliberate: an attempt to confuse, rather than explain obvious facts – such as the existence of a plan to attack Rwanda and the existence of an ethnic-cleansing campaign in the eastern provinces of the vast country, or even a blantant racketeering of mineral resources.
Through propagandist reports and media campaigns, causes of the conflict are blurred or distorted, with relentless attempts to blame a minority group; the very one targeted by Kinshasa for eradication, while the perpetrators of genocide and adherents of a genocide ideology, are protected.
The so-called news reports do not focus on the FDLR’s genocide ideology nor discuss it. Burundi is not mentioned as saboteur, and mercenaries are not seen in UN reports or other self-appointed arbiters of “human rights.” Neither do the media reports.
The narrative has been set, AFC/M23 is the sole focus and Rwanda is “its sponsor.”
Organizations like MONUSCO, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and other similar entities are given the monopoly of truth. What they claim happened becomes biblical truth. They are considered neutral despite their very obvious biases. Or their opaque funding, and their very obvious objectives to tarnish M23, and to smear Rwanda. Yet their report will make it to the UN Security Council, which will be utilized to justify incomprehensible policies.
MONUSCO, for example, has for almost three decades (despite a one billion per year budget) failed in their mandate to protect civilians. Strategically, it’s always preferred to turn a blind eye to the crimes and atrocities of hundreds of armed groups and state-sponsored militia, committing grave crimes against civilians.
Not so long ago, DRC Congo was called the rape capital of the world as Mai Mai, FDLR and Wazalendo ceaselessly raided Banyamulenge villages to rape and kill with abandon.
Essentially, a hoax is perpetrated, that the victim is the butcher, which is quoted by one source, and afterwards that “source” is “re-quoted” by a more “reputable source”. Presto! A gross lie ends up as a verified fact.
That’s how when the disenfranchised, the victims of Kinshasa, organized to push back in their umbrella group, AFC/M23, the initial reaction, and policy was to attack them, regardless of their cause or plight.
UN helicopter gunships took to the air, and bombed or shelled their positions numerous times, while sparing the Mai Mai, FDLR and Wazalendo genocidaires.
You will not hear the MONUSCO flying to rescue Banyamulenges in Minembwe from raid by FARDC, the Burundian Army and their FDLR, Wazalendo allies. The Congolese government seems to have a “sovereign right” to organize large scale ethnic cleansing campaigns of which massacres and gang rapes of innocent civilians.
The various groups dedicated to attacking M23/AFC in the media or through highly biased, slanderous “reports” however will conveniently turn a blind eye to those atrocities. Instead they will rush to assist in covering them up; in the service of Tshisekedi.
The plot: just let the propaganda machinery flip victims into butchers, and also blame Rwanda.
To be continued.
