Rwanda’s lithium discovery cases spotlight on Tshisekedi’s grand theft circus

Kinshasa propaganda accusations that Rwanda “plunders” DRC minerals are nothing more than a smokescreen hiding the true crime: the family of Felix Tshisekedi’s mafia plundering and looting the country blind. This thieving clique however will always blame Rwanda (to deflect accountability).

The Rwanda they smear however has a thriving mining sector of its own; one built on transparency and real development.

Kinshasa propagandists love to point fingers at Rwanda, but the lie is unraveling. Rwanda has substantial mineral resources of its own, including newly discovered high-grade lithium deposits. This lithium, essential for electric vehicle batteries and tech devices, was found by Aterian Plc and Rio Tinto, reflecting Rwanda’s transparent and growing mining sector.

While Rwanda’s mining sector employs over 72,000 people and contributes about 3 percent to its GDP. On its part, the Tshisekedi regime has failed to build even basic infrastructure in the DRC. Roads are broken, schools lack teachers, hospitals lack supplies, and soldiers at the front line go hungry and flee. The accusation that Rwanda plunders minerals tries to cover this failure. Instead of developing his own country, Tshisekedi hides behind his anti-Rwanda propaganda.

More damning still, Belgian courts recently received complaints against nine Tshisekedi family members for stealing from mining sites in Katanga and Lualaba provinces. The scale of this looting, valued at $320 billion, is undeniable. These are not wild rumours but documented criminal acts. The regime’s smokescreen accusing Rwanda only serves to hide this monumental theft and the misery it causes the Congolese people.

Meanwhile, Congolese miners labour in deadly conditions, digging with bare hands underground, often dying in collapsing tunnels. They call their work “a cemetery.” The Tshisekedi regime’s necropolitics, as described by Achille Mbembe, condemns its people to live on the edge of death while looting the mineral wealth underneath their soil. Accusing Rwanda is an attempt to mask this reality.

The constant, baseless accusations that Rwanda “plunders” DRC minerals are nothing more than a smokescreen hiding the Tshisekedi mafia’s real plunder and failures. Until Tshisekedi stops playing this blame game and stops his plunder, the Congolese people will remain trapped in misery, watching the thieving regime of Tshisekedi loot their minerals.
