Six years into Félix Tshisekedi’s disastrous reign, the DRC is sinking fast under what can only be described as a moyibocracy – a regime of liars and thieves. The latest avalanche of contradictions from Kinshasa reveals a regime so mired in deceit even its own ministers can’t keep the lies straight.
Take the Peace Agreement brokered by the United States between the DRC and Rwanda. Phase 2 is crystal clear: “Neutralisation of the FDLR and its splinter groups.”
That means targeted military action and joint evaluation of progress. And just 19 hours ago, Massad Boulos, the U.S. Senior Adviser for Africa, reminded the world on France 24 that both Rwanda and the DRC agreed to a joint security mechanism to neutralise the FDLR.
But Tshisekedi’s regime, true to its moyibicratic nature, has turned this on its head.
Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Tshisekedi’s Foreign Minister, now claims the plan is to “raise awareness among the FDLR about returning to Rwanda.” That’s right, rather than neutralise the genocidal militia sanctioned by the UN and the US for crimes against humanity, the regime wants to sensitise them.
Meanwhile, just two days ago, Tshisekedi’s own Minister of Commerce, Julien Paluku, flat-out denied that the FDLR even exists! Tshisekedi himself spent years lying that the FDLR had been “decapitated and reduced to nothing”. He claimed that while he was embedding the genocidal fighters in the Congolese military, including the Republican Guard in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi.
That was confirmed by the latest report from the UN Group of Experts, which showed details on how Tshisekedi is not only harbouring the FDLR but also arming, embedding, and deploying them alongside FARDC and Wazalendo forces across Walikale, Lubero, and South Kivu.
In a nutshell, Tshisekedi’s regime lies so much, it forgets its last lie before the next one. The regime itself is full of willing dupes who go on to dupe everyone, Congolese citizens, and themselves.
