The absurdity of absolving Habyarimana’s wife of genocide

So-called investigative judges from the Paris judicial court yesterday announced that Agatha Kanziga, Habyarimana’s widow, cannot be indicted in court over charges of genocide since, they claimed absurdly, “there wasn’t enough incriminating evidence.”

To drop genocide wife of Juvénal Habyarimana’s wife, while fully aware for instance that Colonel Théoneste Bagosora, one of the big fish of the genocidal government and a close henchman of Agatha Kanziga was convicted is like calling fire innocent whole blaming only the smoke.

It’s a contradiction that defies logic, and runs contrary to all tenets of justice.

Theoneste Bagosora aka Colonel Apocalypse answered to Habyarimana’s wife in the informal power structure that quickly emerged with the death of Habyarimana. She was the head of the notorious, much feared, all powerful “Akazu” kitchen cabinet – the evil clique that planned and executed the 94 Genocide Against the Tutsi.

To ignore all the evidence that implicates this woman can only happen with highly cynical, biased European “judges” highly contemptuous of Banyarwanda, most especially the million victims, and their countless family members or friends that have been waiting, hoping that evil woman would stand trial and they would get justice.

The Paris ruling is more than a legal failure, it is a moral collapse. Or, most likely, those that passed it feel the standards of morality can be lowered when the victims are Africans.

But the story is not over, far from it!

The Interahamwe, genocidaires reactionaries and their apologists shouldn’t celebrate yet, because there are still more avenues to revise the case and lodge a new case against Agathe Kanziga, a mastermind of the 94 Genocide.

The crimes of which she is guilty have no statute of limitations.
