Poor Burundi has really suffered! This country, one of the completely failed states of the world, was “given” to buffoon Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva by the deceased Pierre Nkurunziza, another “DD” thug.
Wanted for war crimes and genocide, Nkurunziza had planned to extend his rule by having the most incompetent drunk, Evariste Ndayishimiye, as his puppet. Ndayishimiye had a made a name for himself as a world class buffoon, unable to spend 48 hours in a sober state.
In DR Congo, a similar experiment was launched by former ruler Joseph Kabila who deliberately chose the weakest and least competent candidate in a fake election. Kabila wanted to be safe after stepping aside. Felix Tshisekedi, who was third in the fake election, was chosen by Joseph Kabila for his reputation as a laughable clown.
Tshisekedi was known as a habitual drunk. Surely a drunkard, who passed out on his inauguration day, would be easy to control, Kabila thought as he plotted to rule indirectly through Tshisekedi.
Well, the joke was on Nkurunziza and Kabila. Ndayishimiye and Tshisekedi were idiotic drunks (and still are) but they sobered up just enough to get rid of their puppeteers.
Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva killed Nkurunziza with poison and thus became the ruling mad king of Burundi. As for Tshisekedi , he too tried to kill Kabila, but the later survived and fled into exile.
DR Congo, just like Burundi, equally found itself with a clueless imbecile of a ruler.
In governing, both Tshisekedi and Ndayishimiye offer the exact same package. Their “economic policies” are nothing but schemes for grand corruption, looting with abandon.
They’ve opted to divide their citizenry along tribal lines, the better to control through social chaos and discord. As for their so-called security policies, they’ve simply outsourced all basic state functions to mercenaries, militias, and terrorist groups – because they fear strong security institutions that would overthrow them.
The result is catastrophe for both destitute states.
Both countries were poor before, but now they are the undisputed poorest and most chaotic places on the globe. DRC in particular has become a regional hub for terrorists and genocidaires.
There are no development plans or projects to benefit their long-suffering masses. Instead everyone in Congo and Burundi is busy searching (or digging for minerals) in hope of finding something to loot.
It is important to always remember that neither Gen. Neva, nor Tshisekedi were supposed to be president. They were meant to be stooges, but seized power and became a cancer that metastasized uncontrollably.
Naturally, they became allies of each other, and their chaotic regimes are now synchronized in justifying utter failures in all sectors of governance.
They blame neighboring countries (Rwanda is their main scapegoat) for everything that’s wrong in the chaotic state of affairs in their countries.
While academics will certainly be research and teach how NOT to become like DRC Congo or Burundi, both are already examples cited everywhere of what disastrous governance is.
DRC for example has armed the genocidal FDLR, and radicalized thousands with hate speech targeting the country’s Tutsi minority groups.
In addition to enabling terrorism, the two countries now are exporting other nasty fruits of their chaos and incompetence, such as outbreaks of dangerous diseases, due to their collapsed health system. Neighboring countries are also faced with ever increasing influxes of refugees, and job seeking migrants.
How long can the world allow this?
