The US approach to DRC crisis, a tale of distraction and double standards

Molly Phee, the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs and Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner DRC foreign affairs Minister.

On 8th November the US Bureau of African affairs issued yet another communique, heckling Rwanda for alleged support of M23 in DRC.

Such statements by the US outgoing administration dragging Rwanda into DRC internal affairs in fact only are highly dishonest, and biased to appease the Kinshasa regime. Obviously they want very easy access to Congolese mineral resources. It is that dynamic (and not alleged Rwanda support of M23) that fuels endless conflict in DRC.

Tshilombo the DRC’s warmonger president is emboldened by the greed of the US (knowing he has what they want) to keep conflict going. His justifies his campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing against Congolese Tutsi populations with the lie that “M23 is propped up by Rwanda.”

You see, this is a very convenient claim by the Kinshasa butcher.

If there were no war, Tshisekedi would have to explain why he has so abysmally failed at governing the DRC, with the state having completely broken down, services none extent, civil servants not paid, inflation through the roof, unemployment in the stratosphere, and the DRC among the poorest countries on earth despite its wealth of natural resources. So, the incompetent Tshilombo started ethnic cleansing and pogroms (perpetrated by his military FARDC and its motley array of allies including the genocidal FDLR) targeting native Tutsi communities of eastern DRC.

When the latter fought back, under the banner of M23, inflicting stinging defeats upon Tshilombo’s army and its bandit sidekicks, the clown began hollering “Rwanda is our aggressor!” “M23 is Rwanda!”, and so on as nauseum.

This is what the outgoing US administration has been siding with.

They see things like massive displacement of Congolese in the Kivus that flee to refuge in countries like Uganda and Rwanda, due to the violence inflicted by FARDC working with FDLR (now fully integrated in FARDC) and other bandit outfits like the bloodthirsty Wazalendo.

The Biden administration know only Tshisekedi is responsible for that.

They know only Tshisekedi is responsible for the disorder, the constant chaos, the endless conflicts, by among other things refusing to abide by Peace agreements, i.e. the Luanda and Nairobi processes.

They know all this, but then they turn around to invoke Kinshasa propaganda when condemning Rwanda, and drawing false moral equivalences between Rwanda and the bandits committing genocide in eastern DRC!

When the US does that, knowing it’s providing cover for a regime responsible for the creation of more than 140 armed militia groups, some of them it itself put on sanctions list (after they murdered US tourists).

Hopefully the new administration in Washington DC won’t be so craven in matters to do with DRC.
