The outgoing president of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi has added his voice to calls debunking lies from an opposition leader in his country, that “Rwandan troops are deployed in Maputo to shoot protesters” in the aftermath of recently concluded elections.
While appearing before members of the justice administration Nyusi explained that Rwandan armed forces do not have even one troops in Maputo “to control the demonstrations” as alleged by the defeated presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane. The president stressed Rwandan troops were only in the Cabo Delgado province, thousands of kilometers away, where they are combating terrorism, moreover in conjunction with Mozambican forces.
President Nyusi (also chairman of the ruling Frelimo party) informed jurists and the public in general that as of yesterday, he was informed that RDF had cleared more than nine villages including Mucojo in Macomia district and was calling people to return to their homes.
He added that the opposition could not have stooped so low to offend a country that has helped the people of Mozambique when they were faced with incessant terrorist attacks that resulted into whole populations of internally displaced refugees.
Nyusi’s call is the latest to call out Mondlane’s lies. It follows a statement of the European Union Commission which categorically refuted what they termed grave and groundless allegations that Rwanda is violently repressing protests in Maputo.
The opposition in Mozambique needs to come to terms with the results of the elections, and stop trying to tarnish Rwanda.
RDF as an army has earned global accolades and recognition, its discipline and professionalism never in question.
One loser of a politician can’t be allowed to do that.
