Tshisekedi finds another use for FDLR, drawing a false equivalence with M23

Over the weekend, news about FDLR seeking “negotiations” with Rwanda spread.

Reports from Kinshasa were that Tshisekedi has been “in constant discussions with leaders of FDLR”, and that he instructed them to pen a missive calling for the negotiations with Rwanda government.

In a letter addressed to President Joao Laurenco of Angola, the current mediator in the Luanda Peace agreement, FDLR allegedly called him “to advocate on their behalf for negotiations with the Government of Rwanda, claiming that would “help bring the peace in the region.”

Think about that: Tshisekedi the president of DRC is actively working with FDLR, a group born from the remnants of the forces and militias that were the main perpetrators of the 94 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Tshisekedi works with them, lobbies for them, and now is publicly an adviser for them!

The FDLR letter of course was treated with contempt it deserves by Angola. In fact everyone that has been following politics in the Great Lakes Region will conclude that such lousy attempt was nothing short of public diversion; a ruse to buy time by Tshisekedi and his FDLR puppets.

Rwanda’s stand on FDLR, a blacklisted genocidal outfit, has been clear and categorical for the past 24 years. “There are no negotiations with a bloody terrorist militia composed of remnants of genocide perpetrators that killed millions of Tutsis in 1994.”

Rwanda has maintained that any FDLR supporter or politician who has not committed crimes in the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis, can come to Rwanda, go through demobilization process and later get integrated in the society. However, a member of FDLR who has a trial profile should first get tried and serve his sentence. Today, thousands of former FDLR members have gone through the two processes and many have been reintegrated.

Having failed from all fronts, Tshisekedi sought to bring in the equation of FDLR not only to attempt false moral equivalence but to drag the Luanda process and covering himself on his blatant role in supporting FDLR to attack Rwanda and cause regime change.

He, and his FDLR pals will fail, miserably, as usual.
