Burundian economy suffers a cancer called “Neva”

The president of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, aka Gen. Neva, his wife, and his regime are the primary culprits why Burundi today is a bankrupt state, with a completely collapsed economy. To the extent Burundi cannot even afford to import fuel!

The greed of Ndayishimiye and his wife knows no bounds! They steal, or loot poor, destitute Burundi with abandon. Their insatiable lust for money is like a cancer on the economy.

“Gen. Neva” and his wife continuously plot new ways to steal money from the central bank.

Sources reveal that Ndayishimiye, known as an uncouth village man that somehow got access to the Burundian state house, and his wife, have a habit of sending small handwritten notes (usually yellow post-it notes) to the governor of the Central Bank of Burundi, ordering huge cash withdraws.

“Give him the holder (of the post-it note) US$ 100.000,” they usually write, without any further explanation.

While the official exchange rate is 2850 Burundian Francs to the dollar, the rate on the underground market is 7200 for the same dollar. This means that a US$ 100.000 withdrawal will be valued to be 285.000.000 in Burundian currency (the official rate).

The messengers of the Burundian first couple then exchange the foreign currency on the underground market to receive 7.200.000.000 FBU. Finally, they then return 285.000.000 francs to Central Bank, claiming it is what they owed to it, and keep the 435.000.000 difference for their boss Neva, and his wife.

The first family (or rather first crooks) of Burundi have depleted its foreign currencies with such practices, that began the moment Neva took power in 2015.

Furthermore, Ndayishimiye, his wife and CNDD-FDD are looting foreign currency in an economy that’s already groaning under sanctions – one moreover that receives almost no aid, and neither foreign direct investments. They are just brutal, criminal people, with very little understanding how the world economy works.

Analysts say Burundi barely has two weeks’ worth of foreign currency reserves, to import goods. Ordinary Burundians suffer untold hardships as a result of Neva, his wife, and the “DDs” wrecking whatever little was left of the economy when they took power.

Yet Gen. Neva foolishly believes he can involve the ragtag Burundian army into military adventurism in DRC (which has zero benefits for the impoverished country, other than as another criminal enterprise to line the pockets of the crooked ruler).

The consequences have to come, sooner or later!
