Sparks fly as Rwanda-Uganda celebrate border re-opening

It is officially water under the bridge for Uganda-Rwanda spiky relations. And nothing could have sealed the rekindled good neighborliness with a pompous celebration dubbed Katuna-Gatuna border reopening Thanksgiving, marshaled by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The merry-making took place at the Kigezi High School playground in Kabale town yesterday, and thousands of Rwandans and Ugandans, both from Gicumbi and Kabale districts in Rwanda and Uganda respectively, soaked themselves in several fun activities including a friendly football game, and tree planting. Gen. Muhoozi also commissioned the Museveni-Kagame border market at Katuna.

The celebrations featured a concert, also dubbed Rukundo-Egumeho in Kabale, graced by musicians from Uganda and Rwanda including Masamba Intore, Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleon, and Spice Diana, to name a few.

Since border reopening negotiations pioneered by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba in 2022, Ugandans and Rwandans are enjoying cross-border movement, the free movement of people and goods. This Thanksgiving celebration is the icing on the cake to lasting great relations.
