Quest for urgent action as Congolese Tutsi genocide goes on, unabated

Grief and sorrow have once again engulfed Kinyarwanda-speaking Tutsi communities across DRC and abroad after the national army (FARDC) in partnership with Mai-Mai militia murdered one of them in cold blood on Christmas eve.

The deceased, Dr. Merci Kimararungu, a renowned Munyamulenge gynecologist, was ambushed by the assailants as he headed to his workplace in Bijombo locality, Uvira City from South Kivu Province.

Kimararungu was one of the dozens of citizens of Tutsi ethnicity from Bijombo who were killed this month as part of the ongoing Tutsi witch-hunting campaign under the auspices of President Tshisekedi and his ruling political party, UDPS.

Rwanda, and other regional countries have never ceased to urge Kinshasa to shun hate speech against Congolese Tutsi, Kinyarwanda-speaking communities. However, despite all efforts, it has always fallen on deaf ears, as the Tshisekedi regime’s hate campaign gets worse as the days go by.

As U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken remarked, “We know that Rwandans are also alarmed justifiably by the increase in hate speech in the DRC targeting Rwandaphones.” Blinken said this while addressing a press conference in Kigali in early August this year.

“The United States will continue to condemn such unacceptable and dangerous rhetoric, and I encourage President Tshisekedi’s government to do the same.” The top U.S. diplomat added.

Blinken renewed his call to Tshisekedi in a tête-à-tête meeting that brought together the two (on the sideline of the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit that ended a fortnight ago) but since then, Tshisekedi has never shown any will to change anything.

The UN Office for the Prevention of Genocide also stepped in and issued a stern warning against Kinshasa for the ongoing silent genocide committed against Kinyarwanda-speaking Congolese Tutsis, stressing that the Tshisekedi regime does not learn from history as far as genocides that befell this globe are concerned.

Well, it is high time for the world to stop watching, and to start translating words into action. Tshisekedi and his inner circle clearly are liable for charges of hate speech, genocide, and other crimes against humanity

It’s more than high time these things were taken seriously.
