After rigging parliamentary elections in Burundi, Ndayishimiye senior police officers

Barely a month after parliamentary elections, the primitive Burundian dictator Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva has accelerated his purge targeting utmost senior police officers. General de Brigade Bertin Gahungu, Colonel Arakaza Moise along with other Senior Police officers, have been arrested by the dreaded Service de Renseignement National (SNR).

They join former Prime Minister, highest ranked Police General, Alain Bunyoni, Colonel de Police Uwamahoro Desire, on the long list of senior police officers jailed by Evariste Ndayishimiye.

Faced with a coup in 2015, former president Pierre Nkurunziza had organized a secret pact in CNDD-FDD, in a bid to salvage his bid for an illegal third term in office. He promised an era where generals would loot as much as they wanted, followed by a rotation in other Presidential mandates.

Nkuru secured his deal by offering a seven-year presidential mandate to the army, followed by a seven-year mandate to a police general.

In 2020, Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva was picked by Army generals, to head the first seven years. But, suspiciously, Nkurunziza died a few days before Ndayishimiye’s inauguration. The highest ranked Police General Alain Guillaume Bunyoni became prime minister, to co-rule Burundi with Ndayishimiye in a desperate attempt to contain the unstable despot.

However, in less than two years, Bunyoni was accused of threatening national security, booted from his premiership, and jailed in solitary confinement. He eventually was handed a life sentence, followed by an order to reposess all his belongings. The purge had began.

Ndayishimiye replaced Bunyoni with another police general, Gervais Ndirakobuca aka Ndakugarika, to appease those who worried about the Army, Police power sharing deal. Interestingly enough, Police General Bertin Gahungu was instantly appointed to New York, as head of security to the UN mission.

Fast forward to 2025, a parliamentary elections year, Ndayishimiye rigged the vote to obtain 100 percent. He subsequently appointed a civilian prime minister, and barely a month after, is visibly accelerating his crackdown in police ranks.

“There is a feeling of betrayal in both the Army and the Police. Even in the party, we feel let down and betrayed”, explained an influential member of the ruling party on condition of anonymity.

In his analysis, Gen. Neva is just trying to find a scapegoat for his utter failure to govern Burundi. “There is no fuel, water and electricity supply is continuously disrupted. It is impossible to find foreign currencies to import anything. Under his rule Burundi is literally the poorest country in the world. Famine is next. Yet he wants to blame the Police!”

Gen. Neva is purging the security ranks, and it will backfire.

It’s just a matter of time.
