As the region and the entire international community pushes for peace in DR Congo, the allies of the country’s ruler Felix Tshisekedi find themselves in deep trouble.
Foremost is Burundian despot Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva, and then FDLR genocidaires, are in crisis mode. They see peace in DRC as a betrayal to their extremist ideology.
Peace in DRC means even more trouble for CNDD-FDD – Gen. Neva’s criminal cohort of a ruling party. What will they tell families of fallen imbonerakures (CNDD-FDD’s armed militias)?, they ask themselves.
Currently, Burundi has deployed almost 15,000 soldiers from its regular forces, to fight in Tshisekedi’s wars. The Burundian army was deployed after an initial imbonerakures deployement (estimated to be around 5,000) perished in Congo.
Most of these imbonerakures were poorly trained, indisciplined thugs who were told by CNDD-FDD that they had to fight for Tshisekedi to support their extremist tribalist ideology, and then they would gain riches! They joined forces with FDLR and FARDC in ethnic cleansing campaigns, but the AFC/M23 stopped them and neutralised them.
Locally, Neva and his “DD” cronies desperately attempted to hid the death toll in CNDD-FDD imbonerakures and in the army.
Peace in DRC will force them to tell families where their loved one disappeared to, and why they sacrificed tens of thousands in senseless ethnic cleansing campaign in Congo. Neva had promised to pay his soldiers for their illegal mercenary like work in Congo. Where will he find the money to pay the thousands he deployed?
“There is a lot of tension in CNDD-FDD”, a former DD member of parliament revealed, “These soldiers will come back bruised, with their comrade dead bodies or personal effects, just to find out Neva stole their money! I am sure Neva doesn’t want them to come back.”
In reality, Tshisekedi gave millions of dollars to Gen. Neva and his cronies in CNDD-FDD budgeting 5-6 thousand dollars per Burundian sent per month in Congo. Ndayishimiye and his top DD cronies looted the funds spending less than $500 per fighter. Our sources indicate that the junta was making about 15 million dollars per month in their scheme that defrauded Burundian soldiers and imbonerakures.
The Burundian regime is already busy figuring out ways to sabotage peace in DRC. The return of their defeat army and militias represents an active threat for the regime.
