While the world applauds the recent peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda; a historic accord aimed at disarming and repatriating the FDLR rebels, it is no surprise to see Dr. Denis Mukwege, the so-called Nobel Peace Prize winner, publicly denouncing it.
But why would someone who claims to stand for peace oppose an agreement that could end decades of violence and suffering?
The answer lies in Mukwege’s vested interests. For years, he has built his reputation and indeed his entire career on the tragedies of war. The terrorist FDLR and other armed groups he supports, have committed unspeakable atrocities, including sexual violence, which has brought international sympathy, recognition, and massive funding to his Panzi Hospital.
Mukwege is a crook, but also a massive scam artist.
For him war means big money and fame. Without conflict, there are no headlines, no awards, and no international donations pouring in.
Mukwege has never condemned the FDLR’s crimes or their ideology of hate. He remains silent on the atrocities committed by the Wazalendo militias and Burundian forces. Instead, he has consistently used his platform to attack Rwanda and its leaders, painting them as the villains, while conveniently ignoring the rebels who terrorize Congolese communities.
Frustrated and desperate to salvage his political ambitions, Mukwege now finds himself opposing the very process that could bring long-overdue stability to the region. His public statements reveal a fanaticism that goes beyond concern for human rights they expose a man worried that peace will undermine his influence and end the lucrative cycle of suffering that fuels his celebrity.
It is shameful that a Nobel Peace Prize laureate would rather see conflict continue than accept a solution that neutralizes the FDLR. Mukwege’s true intentions are driven by personal interests, not justice or reconciliation.
The people of eastern Congo have endured enough. They deserve genuine peace, not the exploitation of their pain by those who profit from it.
