When the British government decided to impose sanctions against Rwanda in response to the ongoing crisis in eastern DRC, it was a profound misstep.
Instead of adopting a balanced approach, the UK is very biased in favor of the DR Congo regime – a government run by totally incompetent politicians whose main strategy is to foment chaos and externalize their problems.
The most galling thing about Britain’s sanctions (allegedly because Rwanda is involved with the M23 rebels) is that Tshisekedi’s belligerence against Kigali is known to everyone. The Kinshasa fellow has been ranting about attacking Rwanda; about hitting Kigali from Goma; about his desire to effect “regime change” in Kigali. Tshilombo assembled an armed coalition composed of troops from several southern African states as well as Burundi, plus militias such as the genocidal FDLR – all to attack and destabilize Rwanda to achieve his ultimate goal of “removing Kagame”. His ally Ndayishimiye of Burundi went to Kinshasa in early 2024, and voiced the same goals as Tshisekedi of causing regime change in Rwanda.
Even to the blind, there is been clear evidence of Tshisekedi’s plan to attack Rwanda. For instance, tons of military equipment: powerful weapons including fighter aircraft, drones, artillery pieces that were captured in Goma by M23 were intended only for one goal: attack Rwanda.
With all this evidence, how can the UK Government claim Rwanda has done wrong in taking measures to defend itself?
And how can they say absolutely nothing, even the slightest criticism, let alone sanctions, about the Tshisekedi regime which is the main cause of conflict and instability, and besides its forces or militias have been openly perpetrating atrocities; all kinds of crimes against humanity targeting Congo’s Tutsi communities?
What sickening hypocrisy and double standards!
Let them apply their economic terrorism against Rwanda, but we will never be browbeaten into ceasing to defend ourselves.
Never!
