Another sobering moment for Tshisekedi as Sarkozy urges peace talks with M23

Congolese regime ruler Felix Tshisekedi met with Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Kinshasa where the current crisis in the Eastern DRC was discussed. Tshisekedi had hoped that Sarkozy would have a different stance with that of President Emmanuel Macron in vain; he didn’t buy into baseless allegations leveled against Rwanda.

In the meeting, Sarkozy requested Tshisekedi to accept dialogue with the M23 rebel movement as the only way to end the long-standing war in the Eastern part of the country. He also lectured the regime ruler on how the dialogue is in the interest of the Congolese people who have been taken siege by selfish politicians who plunged the country into unending bloodshed.

The French politician Sarkozy urged Tshisekedi to think about Kinyarwanda-speaking who are being persecuted by his army and its allied genocidal militias and thousands of Congolese refugees who have been in exile for more than 20 years and create an enabling environment for their repatriation.

Global leaders, and multilateral institutions continue to appeal upon Tshisekedi to embrace peace; Sarkozy adds to other influential people who have called the Congolese regime ruler out over failure to finding a lasting solution to bring peace in the Eastern DRC.

Time is ripe for Tshisekedi and his cronies to sober up and act responsibly to address his internal problems; otherwise the false political discourse of scapegoating Rwanda for his self-inflicted misery won’t hold. Adherence to provisions of regional peace mechanisms are key in the quest to stabilize the Eastern Congo; there is no doubt about it.
