Tshisekedi has refused to give chance for the continuation of Peace talks

Over the weekend, the AFC/M23 movement took a significant step toward peace by withdrawing its troops from Walikale and surrounding areas.

This gesture of goodwill was intended to facilitate dialogue and pave the way for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict. In response, the Tshisekedi regime publicly acknowledged this move and announced its intention to refrain from launching any offensive actions against M23 forces. The regime even encouraged its troops to follow suit in order to foster de-escalation.

However, words and actions do not always align. Contrary to the March 23, 2025, press release, which stated that the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) and their coalition partners would withdraw attack drones from Walikale, no such withdrawal has taken place.

This failure to honor commitments is a direct obstacle to the ceasefire and jeopardizes ongoing peace initiatives. Adding to the tension, Tshisekedi’s regime has been actively distributing arms and ammunition to the Wazalendo militias and FDLR . Given that Walikale is also a stronghold of the FDLR, it comes as no surprise that Kinshasa has not honored its de-escalation commitments.

Despite statements from FARDC and the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressing their commitment to prioritizing the continuation of the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes, warmonger Tshisekedi’s recent interview in Namibia exposed his lack of genuine willingness to engage in negotiations.

How can peace be achieved with a regime that prioritizes its own survival over the well-being of its people? The current government operates not as a stabilizing force but as a group of predators, spending vast resources to secure the favor of international organizations and media outlets while failing to deliver progress at home. This strategy has only resulted in repeated failures and international embarrassment.

Meanwhile, M23 has consistently sought diplomatic solutions to prevent further bloodshed. Yet, it finds itself facing a government that speaks of peace with one hand while launching drone strikes with the other. The hypocrisy is evident, and these deceptive maneuvers will only delay the inevitable.

If Tshisekedi continues on this reckless path, the consequences will be dire. History has shown that no amount of external support or military aggression can suppress legitimate grievances forever.

The people of the DRC deserve better. They deserve a leadership that genuinely seeks peace, stability, and development not one that manipulates crises for political gain.
