The UN Peacekeeping Mission in DRC, MONUSCO, has again exposed themselves in that they are fighting alongside the genocidal FDLR in eastern DRC.
Yesterday, MONUSCO claimed to have helped the Congolese army (FARDC) “to repel the enemy in Kanyabayonga”, and affirmed that they are increasing patrols to ensure the safety of the populations. The truth is that MONUSCO fights alongside the coalition of FARDC, FDLR, Wazalendo, mercenaries and the Burundians.
After 25 years in DRC, MONUSCO’s mission is a testament to the failure of the United Nations in maintaining neutrality and impartiality, when they got there, there were only 4 armed groups, but today they have a conglomerate of 262 armed groups but for them to keep pleasing Kinshasa regime, the only enemy is the natives M23 who are fighting for their inherent rights.
While the regional and international community continues to urge the Tshisekedi regime to implement a regional peace framework and cease hostilities so that the political dialogue and negotiation between M23 and the Kinshasa regime to happen, MONUSCO which is supposed to be the catalyst of those negotiations is the helping FARDC and its coalition to attack and use military powers, by training FDLR, WAZALENDO and other government-supported militias to fight alongside the national army, helping with air support and reconnaissance and as well as using its bases.
MONUSCO’s record in the DRC reflects inefficiency and complicity rather than peacekeeping success. For nearly 25 years, despite its substantial budget and personnel, the mission has failed to stabilize the region.
Despite extensive resources and a prolonged presence in the DRC, the mission has not succeeded in protecting civilians or addressing the root causes of violence. By supporting FARDC and FDLR forces against M23, MONUSCO has compromised its neutrality and become complicit in ethnic violence and the atrocities committed by the Tshisekedi regime.
Today MONUSCO which is supposed to leave DRC in December this year has continued to abuse its mandate of peacekeeping, following their communication everyone can see that they joined the propaganda machine of Kinshasa to keep manipulating Congolese and the region.
MONUSCO’s job must be focused on 266 armed groups operating in eastern DRC, and not be nakedly biased by focusing only on M23, while collaborating with other illegal militias!
