This Wednesday morning on February, 15 at 4h30, another provocative incident happened at Rwanda-DRC border. A dozen of FARDC soldiers crossed the no man’s land and fired at Rwandan border. Rwandan forces reacted with defensive measures to the incident and the FARDC soldiers retreated.
This follows another provocation act last month, where a fighter jet- Sukhoi-25 from DR Congo violated Rwanda’s airspace. This followed other two incidents in the course of three months. No doubt, Kinshasa provocations reflect Tshisekedi regime’s resolve to deescalate the conflict that has led to instability of the Eastern DRC.
It is worth mentioning that Tshisekedi regime has failed to adhere to all peace frameworks’ provisions put in place by regional peace mechanisms (Luanda Peace Roadmap, Nairobi Peace Process, and Bujumbura Summit). The most recent 20th Extra-Ordinary Summit of EAC Heads of State convened in Bujumbura by EAC Chairman- President Evariste Ndayishimiye, resolved that Kinshasa should hold peace talks with M23 rebel group and adhere to a strict ceasefire. However, all regional leaders’ efforts have constantly fallen on deaf ears.
Rwanda should be kept out of Tshisekedi and his cronies’ shenanigans. Yes, it’s a fact that Tshisekedi is undermining regional peace processes for selfish political gains including delaying the upcoming general elections; but that doesn’t give him a leverage to destabilize Rwanda’s security.
Rwanda won’t tolerate anything that threatens her sovereignty and territorial integrity; neither will it entertain the Congolese regime’s vulgar attitude.
