The meetings of the Joint Permanent Commission on Rwanda and DRC and the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State that convened a couple of days ago re-emphasized the need to eradicate the FDLR terrorist group, and its splinter groups.
The high level meetings also deliberated on the deployment of an EAC contingents under the East Africa Standby Force with mission to help the Congolese army (FARDC) rout FDLR. And not only FDLR, but other illegal armed militia groups wreaking terror on innocent Congolese in eastern Congo.
However, it is increasingly being noticed that eradicating FDLR is a none-starter, as the Kinshasa regime is behind FDLR. Kinshasa tries to give the genocidal group a semblance of legitimacy and is unconcerned about the grave crimes FDLR is guilty of.
For instance, FDLR terrorists were hitherto together with the FARDC in the Rumangabo military barracks; something that arouses doubts on how the Congolese army will rout its collaborator, FDLR while the two are still working together in the broad daylight.
It is public knowledge that President Tshisekedi who is also the Commander in Chief-CiC of FARDC allied with FDLR in an attempt to harm Rwanda’s security, and this alliance was recently unmasked by the United Nations Group of Experts through a report published mid-last month.
The report explicitly revealed that Kinshasa guaranteed the FDLR full control of Virunga National Park bordering Rwanda and that the genocidal and terrorist group is currently using the park to re-organize itself by mainly doing mass recruitment across the Eastern part of the country in its readiness to attack Rwanda.
It’s a good gesture that the Joint Permanent Commission on Rwanda and DRC as well as the EAC Heads of State are working around the clock to ensure the full restoration of peace and security in eastern Congo; but, on the other hand, their efforts will always BE futile due to Kinshasa’s reluctance towards divorcing the FDLR terror group.
