euphoria surrounding alleged US Senate Foreign Relations chairperson’ recommendations amounts to fools’ errand

Social media platforms have been awash with excitement from groups comprising some Congolese, and the usual anti-Rwanda camps that have been prophesying doom for Rwanda. This follows so-called recommendations by United States Foreign Relations Committee Chairman, Bob Menendez, to the US Secretary of State-Antony Blinken.

According to the anti-Rwanda negativists, Menendez’s recommended sanctions would mean the end of the world for Rwanda! They are like small children that think every utterance from America is a word from God. They yap about “US sanctions”, and claim “Rwanda will be deprived of assistance.”

Their little brains can’t conceive of the idea that the world doesn’t work like that. Wishful thinking moves nothing.

As some of these Congolese celebrate what they are calling a “major victory,” they fail to see what empty noises they are making.

Menendez on the other hand should be the last person to be making allegations about anyone. He should take a look at his personal history first. He is the least credible person.

In 2015 Menendez was indicted on federal corruption charges, upon which the United States Senate Select Committee on Ethics “severely admonished” him, after it found that over a six-year period Mendez knowingly and repeatedly accepted gifts of significant value from one Dr. Melgen without obtaining required Committee approval, and that he failed to publicly disclose certain gifts as required by Senate Rule and federal law.

His country’s Senate Committee on Ethics said that while accepting these gifts, Mendez used his position as a Member of the Senate to advance Dr. Melgen’s personal and business interests, and the committee determined that this conduct violated Senate Rules, federal law, and applicable standards of conduct.

Hence, as the Congolese and Rwandan detractors celebrate this purported ‘victory’ against Rwanda, they need to fact-check the credibility of their hero before their excitement end in disappointment. It is public knowledge that the DRC has embarked on a highly expensive diplomatic offensive that they have committed to win at all costs. There are speculations that this ‘victory’ that is causing the clicking of champagne glasses could be a result of this ‘heavy briefcase’ diplomatic offensive by Congolese leaders.

Corruption the Zairois style could catch up with Menendez, further bringing his activities into question.
