The Heads of States of Rwanda, DR Congo and Angola met in Luanda last week on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, and reached a roadmap that among other things included the immediate defeat of the FDLR and its splinter groups.
To everyone’s surprise, the Tshisekedi regime was quick to downplay the roadmap, just as it did with recommendations made on the pacification process in the eastern Congo in previous gatherings that include the recent EAC Heads of State conclave.
For instance, after the Luanda summit Kinshasa came up with a strange narrative that the blacklisted FDLR genocidal and terrorist group “is nowhere to be seen” on Congolese soil “since it was routed back in 2009” – these smokescreen pronouncements are currently being publicized by the foreign Minister, Christophe Lutundula.
Kinshasa’s new twist on the FDLR is only meant for the gullible and naïve souls, since the very same regime in recent years would not rest at ease as the result of horrendous crimes by FDLR. This prompted President Tshisekedi himself to launch an operation dubbed “Sokola” in which some of the terrorist group’s leaders were killed.
However, Kinshasa’s abrupt reactions speak volumes, and the reason the former is changing its position on FDLR is simple to see: the Congolese army (FARDC) remains committed to fostering its unholy alliance with FDLR.
FARDC’s alliance with the genocidal forces has only become more pronounced, especially during the ongoing Congolese civil war that opposes FARDC- FDLR against the M23 movement. FARDC recently released FDLR senior terrorists that had been court-martialed for war crimes, rape and extrajudicial killings among other crimes against humanity.
It has also been established that FARDC-FDLR were working hand in hand to perpetrate several provocations including shelling into Rwanda or abducting two Rwandan soldiers who were patrolling along the border. At the same time, the Tshisekedi regime is perpetrating genocide against Congolese Tutsi populations, together with FDLR.
Rwanda’s quest to the DRC authorities has always been to arrest FDLR criminals, bring them to book, or deport them to their native country for trial. DRC always plays deaf on the subject since FDLR serves the interests of the Congolese failed politicians.
The international community must look at these issues very clearly, especially the crimes that FARDC-FDLR is committing while executing President Tshisekedi’s evil plans against Rwanda.
